It is largely thanks to Arthur Roessler, Klimt's biographer, that we have at least some samples of Bruno Beran's early work and devlopment. In his book (Der Maler Bruno Beran, Ein Studie) we not only have 33 picture reproductions, but we also have a close, albeit often poetical, insight into his subject's inner thoughts.

The images for the 18 donated pictures are taken from the magnificently illustrated and informative catalogue that was produced to accompany an exhibition in 2005 which supplemented the donated paintings with other seminal works, especially those in the collection of his friend Joan Oliver Fuster of the Galeria Maneu in Palma. We are much indebted to the professional insights of the contributors to that catalogue in the preparation of accompanying notes.
